Ingredients
- 2 ozgin60 ml
- 8-10fresh basil leaves
- ¾ ozfresh lemon juice22 ml
- ¾ ozsimple syrup22 ml
Instructions
Muddle basil leaves with lemon juice and simple syrup in a shaker. Add gin and ice. Shake hard and double-strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice. Garnish with a basil leaf.
Sips & Tips
Technique
Muddle the basil firmly — you want to bruise it and release the aromatic oils. Double-strain through a fine mesh to catch all the leaf bits. The drink should be bright green.
Balance
Created by Jörg Meyer in Hamburg in 2008, this is one of the great modern classics. The basil's peppery, anise-like notes complement gin's botanicals perfectly.
