Ingredients

  • 1½ ozrye whiskey
  • 1 ozcampari
  • 1 ozsweet vermouth

Instructions

Combine rye whiskey, Campari, and sweet vermouth in a mixing glass with ice. Stir for 30 seconds until well-chilled and properly diluted. Strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube. Garnish with an orange twist.

Sips & Tips

Technique

Rye's spiciness adds a peppery edge that bourbon's sweetness doesn't provide. Stir longer than you think — proper dilution tames the Campari's bitterness.

Balance

The rye-forward version is drier and more assertive than the bourbon original. Rittenhouse Rye is the classic choice — its high proof stands up to the bitter and sweet modifiers.
