Fernet-Branca

The bartender's handshake. Fernet-Branca is an intensely bitter Italian amaro made from 27 herbs including myrrh, chamomile, saffron, and peppermint. It's an acquired taste — medicinal, minty, and aggressively bitter — but once you acquire it, nothing else satisfies. Essential for the Toronto cocktail and a rite of passage in the bar industry.

Styles & Brands

Fernet

A sub-category of amaro characterized by intense bitterness, menthol, and medicinal herbal notes. Higher in bitterness than most amari — designed as a digestif but embraced by bartenders worldwide.

  • Fernet-Branca

Intensely bitter and medicinal with bold peppermint, myrrh, and saffron. The industry standard — shoot it neat, use it in a Toronto, or add a few dashes to an espresso for a caffè corretto.

  • Fernet-Branca Menta

Sweeter and more overtly minty than the original — like bitter mint chocolate. More approachable as a standalone sipper.

  • Branca Menta

The mint-forward sibling — sweeter and more approachable. Often served over ice as a digestif in Italy.
