Instructions
Lick the back of your hand between thumb and index finger. Sprinkle salt on the wet spot. Hold the lime wedge ready. Lick the salt, shoot the tequila, bite the lime. In that order.
Sips & Tips
Technique
The salt numbs your taste buds slightly, the tequila goes down, and the lime cuts the burn. It's a ritual as much as a drink. Use a decent blanco — bad tequila makes this painful.
Balance
If you're using good tequila (Espolòn, Olmeca Altos), you don't need the salt and lime — sip it instead. The ritual is for cheap tequila you need to mask.
