Ingredients
- 2 ozspiced rum60 ml
- ¼ ozdemerara syrup7 ml
- 2 dashesangostura bitters
- 1 dashorange bitters
Instructions
Add demerara syrup and bitters to a rocks glass. Add a splash of spiced rum and stir to dissolve. Add a large ice cube and remaining rum. Stir gently for 20 seconds. Express an orange peel over the glass and drop it in.
Sips & Tips
Technique
Spiced rum already has vanilla, cinnamon, and clove notes built in, so this Old Fashioned variation needs less work. Demerara syrup adds a molasses richness that complements the rum.
Balance
The spiced rum does most of the heavy lifting. You need less sweetener than a bourbon Old Fashioned because the rum is already flavored. The orange peel ties everything together.
